Public consultation on the authorization to operate the EPR Flamanville electricity production facility
All concerned by global warming, all concerned by the quality of the air, the necessary move away from imported fossil gas, the security of the electricity supply; all concerned by the public consultation on the authorization to operate the Flamanville EPR.
In a context of increasing need to electrify transport and heating, this new major source of low-carbon electricity (1675 MWe that can be controlled) will be necessary to make the closure of the Cordemais coal-fired power station effective, and to limit the need of a call for the future gas power station of Landivisiau.
The start-up of this unit, which is called on to produce in base most of the time, will also be more than welcome to support an electricity network increasingly weakened by the withdrawal of controllable capacities in Western Europe.
Finally, after many ups and downs, and even though two units are already operating in China and soon a third in Finland, the commissioning of this domestic “seed” of the EPR is essential to reaffirm the place of the French nuclear industry as a as a leading player in this increasingly competitive global industry.
